In Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 Update 4, we released a feature called Veeam Intelligent Diagnostics. In Veeam Availability Suite v10, we enhanced VID by adding the ability to find potential issues with proxies and backup repositories in addition to Veeam Backup & Replication servers. This is a feature each and every Veeam Availability Suite customer has available to them today, and a feature that provides tremendous value. Let’s take a look at how VID reduces risk in your Veeam environment and keeps it always ready to protect or restore your data.
Veeam Intelligent Diagnostics signatures
Veeam has over 375,000 customers running its software, which when you think about it, is a tremendous number.
Veeam customers come in all shapes and sizes, and in all different types of business areas. From technology companies to healthcare companies, to oil and gas companies, and educational organizations, Veeam protects a huge variety of customer data.
Because so many customers use our products in so many ways, we can learn a lot of different things by taking a look at our support cases.
We can create new VID signatures based on the things we’re seeing, like common misconfigurations, or things that happen only under very specific circumstances that a customer would never even think about, like a performance issue.
With Veeam Intelligent Diagnostics, we can leverage the lessons learned in these environments easily and securely to reduce risk for all our customers.
How VID analyzes environments
Through a simple agent installed on your Veeam Backup & Replication server by Veeam ONE, the health of your Veeam environment is securely analyzed while you remain in full control of your data.
When I say simple, I mean it only takes a single click to install on your Veeam servers, if you did not already do so when you connected them to your Veeam ONE environment.
None of your data is ever sent to Veeam servers. At all. Ever.
Instead, Veeam ONE can simply download new Veeam Intelligent Diagnostics signatures from Veeam, and the agent installed on the Veeam server does the analysis.
Veeam Availability Suite customers can check for a new signature at any time through Veeam ONE Data Protection View or download them from Veeam’s website directly and import them into their Veeam ONE server.
VID’s log analysis can be scheduled to run daily and on demand at any time. There really isn’t an easier way to take proactive measures to protect your Veeam Backup & Replication environment.
Fix issues before they become a problem
VID signatures are updated twice a month, with numerous enhancements. Beyond new detection definitions for issues Veeam customers may face, the updates also include capabilities and enhancements to the diagnostics engine itself.
Then, if an issue is found, customers are alerted through Veeam ONE alarms with important information to streamline the remediation process. Don’t miss this “V10: New alarms, remediation & enhanced diagnostics” post which talks about some more of the exiting updates not only to VID, but to Veeam ONE remediation actions.
Let’s take a look at one of the more recent VID signatures.
This one is related to the upgrade to Veeam Availability Suite v10. It’s letting users know that they may encounter an issue seeing backup infrastructure components during their first console launch after the upgrade.
In this case, the resolution is simple. Just wait 15-20 minutes, and you won’t encounter the issue again. It’s a great example of helping Veeam customers really understand what’s going on in their environment, and avoiding a potential support call.
All Veeam Availability Suite customers can reduce risk in their environments by using Veeam Intelligent Diagnostics, and there isn’t anything else in the industry like it.
Veeam securely processes information from your environment’s logs right on your Veeam servers. Your data is never sent to Veeam or anywhere else.
With the experience of over 375,000 Veeam customers, we can constantly update VID definitions and push them out as new issues and risks arise, helping customers fix issues before they even become a problem.
If you’re already using Veeam Availability Suite, please take a few minutes to make sure you have the Veeam ONE Agent installed. Then, you can take a scroll through the Veeam Intelligent Diagnostics signatures by looking at the Intelligent Diagnostics section under Backup & Replication in the Alarm Management view in Veeam ONE.
If you aren’t already using Veeam Availability Suite, you can contact Nth Generation to request a 30-day free trial and see how powerful Veeam Intelligent Diagnostics really is.
