Network Management is a general term used for a variety of different applications used to Manage the network devices.
What it is
The base Legacy Network Management was based on SNMP which could map out your network switches and routers, monitor, get alerts, and was used to configure network devices. Now network management can include Analytics which monitors the traffic on the network and reports on what applications are being used and can help determine where a problem might exist. Other things include Compliance reporting, Configuration Management, Analytics, NAC, and other AI/ML capabilities.
Network Management is changing, most networking vendors have a Cloud Management platform SaaS that can manage the network. Some Can be installed in a Data Center with similar capabilities as cloud offers.
Beyond the Cloud and on Premises solutions customers can also choose to have a Managed Services Provider manage their network for a monthly fee.
