What is it?

Hyperconverged infrastructure redefines the traditional 3-tier storage infrastructure. No longer is the complexity of SAN storage a management challenge. The costly SAN storage is not a component of Hyperconverged Infrastructure HCI.  

Among the industry’s top HCI vendors/solutions are VMware vSAN, Nutanix, and HPE SimpliVity. Each have their own approach to Software Defined Storage (SDS). Their commonality is the lack of a SAN, which means elimination of its complex management challenges. The costly storage specialist skills are no longer a pre-requisite to deploying or maintaining datacenter infrastructure. Management complexities such as fabric zoning, LUN management, RAID design, and forklift upgrades are addressed with the advent of mature HCI solutions. SDS allows HCI to quickly change performance profiles, add storage services, and reduce complexity.
