Hyperconverged Infrastructure

Hyperconverged systems and hyperconverged infrastructures are types of infrastructure systems with a software-centric architecture that tightly integrates compute, storage, networking, and virtualization resources in a commodity hardware box supported by a single vendor.

Hyperconverged Infrastructure

What is it?

Hyperconverged infrastructure redefines the traditional 3-tier storage infrastructure. No longer is the complexity of SAN storage a management challenge. The costly SAN storage is not a component of Hyperconverged Infrastructure HCI.

Among the industry’s top HCI vendors/solutions are VMware vSAN, Nutanix, and HPE SimpliVity. Each have their own approach to Software Defined Storage (SDS). Their commonality is the lack of a SAN, which means elimination of its complex management challenges. The costly storage specialist skills are no longer a pre-requisite to deploying or maintaining datacenter infrastructure. Management complexities such as fabric zoning, LUN management, RAID design, and forklift upgrades are addressed with the advent of mature HCI solutions. SDS allows HCI to quickly change performance profiles, add storage services, and reduce complexity. Complex silos of management and function are combined to simplify delivery of performance and resilience of storage and compute.

Maximize Your Storage

Software Defined Storage is at the heart of HCI. Your storage I/O is closer to the CPU and your application’s response time can get faster. This enables flexibility in how your infrastructure and applications consume storage to meet their specific requirements. What was once hard coded to specific vendor technologies can now be shifted and consumed independently of hardware vendors. You can now maximize new storage technologies at a faster rate to keep up with business needs. The shift to a software defined storage model enables an organization to maximize hardware innovations in the datacenter. Storage innovations in performance can be quickly adopted in SDS such as NVMe and SSD.

Reduced Complexity

Virtualization is simplified when using hyper converged infrastructure. All the resources needed to run infrastructure applications are grouped together in simple building blocks that allow you to scale horizontally or vertically, if needed.. There is not a separate interface for each component. Instead, centralized simplified management is powerful and efficient. What took days and weeks for traditional infrastructure expansion, can be accomplished in hours with HCI. No more storage forklift upgrades are disruptive with HCI.

Much quicker to deploy infrastructure. Typically, it can be set up within hours as opposed to days.
