Speaker Biography
Dane Smith is VMware's Vice President of the Americas. He has specific responsibility for the field operations and approximately an $800M business. Dane joined VMware 2 years ago and regularly speaks with customers, partners and consulting organizations regarding:
- Environmental TCO
- Green IT and carbon neutrality
- Power, cooling, and density (space) improvement
- Thermal dynamics and fluid dynamics of a data center
- Airflow, tonnage, power consumption, effective thermal wattage and heat dissipation
- CAPEX and OPEX cost reductions;
- Leveraging virtualization for Balance Sheet and P&L improvement as well as income statement improvement
Dane works closely with some of California's largest energy providers. He also consults with the US Department of Energy and the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Prior to VMware, Dane worked at Verari Systems, a start up manufacturer of high performance blade servers with worldwide responsibility for sales and marketing as Executive Vice President. Prior to Verari, Dane spent 12 successful years at Sun Microsystems. In his last role at Sun, Dane was the VP of Sales and Field Engineering for the Western Market Area.
