Overview
The HP StorageWorks Reference Information Storage System (RISS) is a records management and archiving solution that minimizes storage costs and offers unprecedented end user accessibility by transforming data into useful information. IT storage and storage management costs are reduced by a factor of 3 to 5 via highly optimized single instancing capabilities, automated migration of data off expensive primary storage, and end-user initiated information searches and retrievals. The RISS integrates all of the required hardware, software, and services to provide both a cost-effective and a long-term storage appliance for reference information that delivers the lowest TCO in the industry. Through the HP StorageWorks grid architecture, the RISS also provides investment protection by enabling scalability to hundreds of terabytes and billions of objects without loss of performance, intelligently distributing terabytes of content across a grid of storage smart cells.

The Reference Information Storage System searches billions of documents or records in seconds and scales to hundreds of terabytes of storage. The RISS is a key component of the HP Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) suite of products and services and serves as a platform for all types of reference information, including email, file, and database objects. Application awareness, content-based indexing and powerful search tools ensure unprecedented accessibility to information. RISS assists customers in complying with retention and regulatory requirements and corporate governance initiatives. Data is stored securely with date and time stamping of all objects to mitigate risk and prevent tampering or changing of the retained records. Through industry-standard interfaces and protocols, RISS supports a wide range application partners and is tightly integrated with HP's highly optimized data capture and migration applications.

Customer has the option of replicating the RISS to a remote site or using the imbedded backup option to back up the RISS to tape.
